ZOOM! Teeth Whitening

Zoom! is a whitening process that is considered to be the most popular solution in resolving teeth discoloration all over the world. It is one of the most effective products in eliminating stains on teeth from drinking coffee, tea, cola and red wine; or from smoking, and even teeth staining as a result of the aging process.

Zoom teeth whitening procedure uses the Zoom Advanced Power Chairside Lamp – it cuts the time of whitening process of almost half the time of other systems. The process includes using 25 percent hydrogen peroxide whitening gel.

Laser Teeth Whitening

The Laser teeth whitening system uses powerful high performance light that emits low heat, which is good for patient’s teeth and gums. The laser beam is released in short intervals to activate the hydrogen peroxide gel. This is suitable for patients who have yellow teeth or turbid teeth that are not caused by dental plaque.

LED Teeth Whitening

LED teeth whitening uses cool light technology which is an LED light, to stimulate the effectiveness of teeth whitening gel to penetrate the tooth surface and reacting to the stain or discoloration on the dentin and breaking it down. The soft blue ray emits no heat. It is released through a curved line, designed to reach the actual alignment of teeth. The whitening gel is activated onto the teeth enamel as the light penetrates thoroughly.

  • Determine oral hygiene and lifestyle habits to determine if you will benefit from teeth whitening
  • Determine if there is a need to do other cosmetic dental procedures, such as filling, veneers to make sure even match of the restoration and natural teeth

Our dentist can determine which whitening system is right for you after performing a thorough oral examination which includes shade assessment.

Procedure :

Step 1 – regular teeth cleaning
Step 2 – prepare for the procedure by putting cheek retractors in place, then cover lips with protective cream and special rubber compound or a dam material on the gums to protect from UV rays
Step 3 – apply whitening gel
Step 4 – aid whitening gel with the ZOOM light, laser or LED cool light to allow the whitening gel to penetrate the dentine. This procedure is repeated as necessary.

Treatment time varies depending on patient’s teeth shade and staining prior to treatment; however, average chair time is approximately one hour.

What to Keep in Mind :

There are many factors that can affect the shade change of teeth after whitening, so it’s important to have realistic expectations before and after whitening. The patient should also know there are certain foods, habits (like smoking), and medications that can cause staining to occur sooner than it should be. It is important that patient would want to avoid these as much as possible during whitening and few weeks after the treatment in order to maintain that beautiful white smile.

Teeth Sensitivity after teeth whitening treatment :

Teeth sensitivity is normal after treatment because of teeth enamel dehydration, but the intensity of sensitivity to any of the system vary depending on the condition of a patient’s teeth prior to treatment. Some teeth are more sensitive than others. Sensitivity wears off within few hours but some experience it even after 2 weeks. If this occurs you have options to reduce the pain.

  • Use sensitivity toothpaste – sensitive toothpastes contains ingredients that can relieve pain associated with tooth sensitivity, such as potassium nitrate.
  • Chew gum – study shows that chewing gum produces more saliva that can help rehydrate tooth enamel and reduce sensitivity.
  • Avoid whitening teeth or stop using whitening products for a while.

Care after teeth whitening :

  • Brushing, flossing of teeth at least 2 times a day, and use mouthwash regularly.
  • Use toothpaste containing potassium nitrate to prevent tooth sensitivity
  • Avoid foods and beverages that cause teeth staining like tea, coffee, wine, sauces, and candies. If it cannot be avoided, consume beverages using straw instead of a glass.
  • Avoid eating acidic foods and drinks such as citrus fruits
  • Avoid eating food while it is still really hot or drinks that are too cold
  • No smoking for at least 1 week after teeth whitening.
  • If teeth sensitivity still persists, take painkillers to alleviate the symptoms.
